Omschrijving:
HIV/AIDS emerged as a major public health problem in Ethiopia since the early 1990s. Though the response to the epidemic has been scaled-up since recently, the effectiveness of the response is yet to be evaluated. Despite high prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the country, care and support services seem to be inadequate and lack strength to address real needs of the patients. This study identify gaps in home-based care services from both provider and patient perspectives and recommend proper interventions. Two groups of respondents participated in the study were all AIDS patients and home-based caregivers. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among AIDS patients and home caregivers. Specific and evidence based recommendations were forwarded to policy makers, implementers and patients on the areas of major gaps identified so that appropriate measures to be taken.
