Pride and Prejudice follows the story of Elizabeth Bennet, the second of five daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, a landed country gentleman in early 19th century England. Mrs. Bennet is determined to see all her daughters married off to wealthy men, and when the wealthy and eligible Mr. Bingley arrives in their village, she sees it as the perfect opportunity to marry off one of her daughters. At a ball, Mr. Bingley is smitten with the eldest Bennet daughter, Jane, while Elizabeth meets Mr. Darcy, a wealthy and proud man who initially insults her. Elizabeth's prejudice against Mr. Darcy is compounded when she hears rumors about him from his friend Mr. Wickham, but she eventually learns that some of her assumptions were incorrect. Read in English, unabridged.
