The U.S. and Japan are building an unnecessary, unaffordable, and unworkable military base at Henoko, Okinawa, which will destroy a precious coral reef filled with hundreds of rare and endangered species. This is happening in spite of overwhelming opposition from local Okinawans. The Japan central government, long prejudice against indigenous Okinawans, is trying to extinguish the opposition, committing numerous human rights violations.
A petition was started to save the reef which quickly garnered international attention, including from celebrities such as Dr. Brian May from Queen, Van Dyke Parks, Rola, and Ryuchell, as well as from environmental, peace, and human rights organizations.
Will the U.S. and/or Japan have a change of heart, and respect the human rights and dignity of the Okinawan people?
