Lady Fiona Carnarvon dook in de geschiedenis. Downton Abbey het echte verhaal vertelt het levensverhaal van een van de meest fascinerende bewoners van Highclere.

Lady Almina 1876 - 1969 . De flamboyante Almina was de onwettige dochter van banktycoon Alfred de Rothschild.

Op haar negentiende trouwde ze in 1895 met de vijfde graaf van Carnarvon. Haar vader gaf haar een grote bruidsschat mee.

Alwina s leven op Highclere werd een duizelingwekkende mix van banketten met meer dan 500 gasten koninklijke bezoeken immense jachtpartijen en enorme feesten. Ze bestierde een staf van ruim 80 mensen waarvan de meesten al generaties lang op Highclere werkten.

De Eerste Wereldoorlog deed het leven op Highclere echter veranderen. Lady Alwina moest al haar krachten inzetten om deze turbulente tijden te overleven.

Haar familie haar personeel en natuurlijk het landgoed Highclere Castle werden de inzet van haar strijd. Maar het oude leven van voor de oorlog zou nooit meer terugkomen.

Lady Fiona Carnarvon schreef een prachtige geschiedeins over een voorgoed verdwenen tijd. Lady Fiona Carnarvon trouwde in 1999 met de huidige Earl van Carnarvon.

Acht jaar geleden nam het echtpaar het beheer van Highclere Castle op zich waar zij samen met hun zoon wonen. Met grote interesse verdiepte Lady Fiona zich in de rijke geschiedenis van het kasteel en zijn fascinerende bewoners.
