Books boeken hans vogel wbooks paperback 2001 illustraties: Gouda is bekend om haar plateel. bont gedecoreerd sieraardewerk massaal geproduceerd en voorzien van mat of glanzend glazuur.

Toen er in de jaren twintig toenemende kritiek ontstond op de artistieke kwaliteiten van het plateel vroeg men kunstenaars om nieuwe ontwerpen voor zowel sier- als gebruiksaardewerk. Deze ontwerpen kenmerkten zich door eenvoudiger vormen van decoratie die bovendien beter op de vorm waren afgestemd.

Daarnaast experimenteerde men met nieuwe spuittechnieken of zag men zelfs geheel af van een decor. Van decor naar design gaat in op de achtergronden van deze boeiende ontwikkeling in de verschillende plateelbakkerijen van Gouda en laat diverse hoogtepunten uit deze periode zien.
