Vorig jaar verscheen het album 'Live At The NCH' van de Iers/Amerikaanse alt-folk formatie The Gloaming. Na twee studio-albums vonden de 5 heren (Martin Hayes, Dennis Cahill, Thomas Bartlett, Caoimhin O Raghallaigh en Iarla O Lionaird) het al tijd om hun live performances voor het nageslacht vast te leggen. Nu is het tijd voor '3'. Dit nieuwe album werd opgenomen in de Reservoir Studios te New York met Thomas Bartlett (ook bekend van o.a. Sufjan Stevens en St. Vincent) als producer en Patrick D
llet als engineer (bekend van o.a. David Byrne en Laurie Anderson). Wederom is The Gloaming er in geslaagd om traditionele Ierse folk muziek te laten samengaan met flarden 'nieuwe' jazz, klassieke kamer, post-rock en experimentele muziek; 'you hear immediately the energy that comes from the clash and then the connection between tradition and innovation, between following contours that have been inherited and then creating a new tonal realm for that very inheritance'. Deze 5 muzikanten begrijpen
het muzikale verleden om zodoende het te kunnen verrijken met hedendaagse elementen. Overheersend blijven de melancholische en haast meditatieve klanken en de diversiteit in sfeer en geluid; 'it is rooted in Ireland, but open to the world'.
