Herbal formulations are becoming integral part of health care system for both preventative and therapeutic purposes around the globe. There is a continuous increase in demand of this product in the international market. With increasing number of people switching once again towards the traditional system of medicine, it is important that they receive authentic medicines. Polyherbal oils are therapeutically active oils either obtained in pure form from various sources or prepared by digestion of herbs and minerals in suitable oil base. Polyherbal oils are popular means of treatment for various ailments, specially pain and skin diseases. Standardization of medicinal oils in terms of composition is important to ensure optimum levels of active principles for their bio-potency. Modern chromatographic methods are most widely used for marker based standardization. In the last two decades HPTLC and HPLC have emerged as an efficient tool for the phytochemical evaluation of herbal drugs. Present book is an attempt to provide guidance on development and validation of HPTLC and HPLC methods for marker based quantitation of polyherbal oils.
