Jack Turnbull’s fate changes the day he catches the wrong bus and runs into his old school mate Kev Goss. Jack has just lost his job, so Kev invites him to work with him on a local building site where he’s a labourer.
The two become the best of mates, but Jack longs for more and hopes Kev feels the same. The only way to find out, he decides, is by dropping hints. The touble is, Kev doesn’t take Jack’s hints seriously.
Tired of unrequited love, Jack ends the friendship and leaves London in a bid to find the man of his dreams. He spends the next couple of years working on construction sites up and down the UK, only to return with the disappointing knowledge that the building trade is void of gay men.
Still a virgin, and by now desperate, he takes a job in a fetish bar. But unused to all the sexual freedom the job seems to offer, Jack finds it hard to keep himself under control and ends up out on a limb.
Then he sees an ad for a job on a construction site in Cologne, the city of darkrooms and anonymous sex. It’s there that he finally finds what he’s looking for, and it could have been his from the very start—if only he’d waited just a little bit longer.
